Craft Kendama - The Cascade Shape
Craft Concepts. Chapter 2.
When Lisa Komatsubara came to visit KUSA, we spent some days in the Craft Shop experimenting with new design concepts. Lisa has an extensive background in juggling, and took inspiration from the shape and feel of a juggling club. The finished shape is a Ken that is taller than most, with a distinct slip stop and thick base cup ring.
This unique shape gives the player who loves juggles an unmistakable feel when throwing and catching the ken. She kept the crisp inner edges on the cups similar to what you’d find on a Jet Ken, while rounding out the cup rims to help with stalls. We paired this taller shape with a 63mm tama and strung it with an icy blue string and bearing. A beveled base cup hole helps with weight distribution, and we’ve added burn lines on the ken and tama for top notch tracking.
